For workshops, talks and performances, we require you to
pre-register online, as some of these events will book out quickly. Fill in the JotForm link for each event you would like to attend.
Please note, we anticipate that some events will have a high demand but restricted capacity. If you can no longer attend an event, please email sophie@propel.org.au to let us know and we can offer your spot to someone else.

KickstART 2023 Closing Party
Youth Week WA KickstART Festival 2023 finishes off with an evening of free live music, dancing and games at the Art Gallery of WA Rooftop on Friday April 21!
KISS Club #2 with pvi collective and Midland Junction Arts Centre
The KISS Club asks five artists to present 10 minutes of a work in progress to an audience, providing a chance to trial a new idea and receive immediate feedback, with you, the audience gaining access to a dynamic arts experience. It can be anything, so long as it needs an audience. KISS Club celebrates works in progress, giving audiences fresh insight into what is bubbling in the hearts and minds of Perth’s experimental performance makers, and the opportunity to help shape and support new work. It books out every year, so don’t miss out!
An Evening of African Poetry and Storytelling
An Evening of African Poetry and Storytelling (EAPS) is an interdisciplinary live performance show that brings together a collective of emerging African diaspora creatives. The African diaspora cast returns to delight with a crafty narrative and razor-sharp wordplay. Ponder over the heavy punchlines and underlying themes of mental health and community, delivered in sizzling rap and spoken word performances. A collection of stories carefully woven to capture the modern-day migrant experience. Audiences are encouraged to feel at home, grab an instrument and join in the fun.
BIPOC Artist Painting Workshop with The Lester Prize
Led by Wandani Noognar (Aboriginal) and Ait Koedhal (Torres Strait Islander) artist Tyrown Waigana, this workshop invites all young BIPOC visual artists of all skill levels to come and develop their practise in painting and creating art. All materials will be provided, just bring your ideas!

MYAN Sundowner - Multicultural Youth Meetup with the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network WA
Come and enjoy a night of ‘anything but networking’ for young multicultural people. This social Meetup is designed for young multicultural folks to mingle and enjoy each other's company, creating community and connection. There will be food and tunes, we just need you.
DnD Live Presents: Blending the Arts with Role Play
Come join DnD Live Presents, as they discuss how to blend your arts career with your gaming skills. Ever thought that your role-playing skills could help apply to a career in acting, or your organisational skills as a DM being able to translate over to Arts Management? In this symposium, learn how to tie together your DnD skills into your arts career!
Zine Making with Sophie Smith and the Youth Pride Network (YPN)
If you're interested in zine making this is the workshop for you. Come down to the Fremantle Library and meet other artistic people to create something new. Each participant will create their own page which is then combined into one collective zine. This will be donated to the library and become a fixture in their zine library.
First Nations Youth Write Night with Casey Mulder
First Nations Youth Write Night is an opportunity to celebrate First Nations stories and storytellers and write in safe, collaborative space. The Write Night is an opportunity for mob to work on their writing and discuss a First Nations book with other young people. There will also be a discussion around the poetry collection Guwayu - For All Times.
Interwoven storytelling: journalism & creative writing with Molly Schmidt
Journalist and author Molly Schmidt will present on the ways her journalism career and writing practice are mutually informative and support each other. Delve into how interviewing real people can help develop your creative writing and explore how creative writing can be utilised in a career in media and news. The art of perfecting a pitch is important in both the newsroom and to get your fiction published - just bring your idea and then come away with a pitch and interview questions to get your story on its way.
Black and White Film Developing Workshop with Luke Moore and Silver Halide
During this workshop, you will spend the day learning everything you need to know about developing your roll of film by hand. This includes loading, unloading, developing, fixing, and drying film. This is a beginner-friendly workshop and encourages all skill levels to attend!
Quick on the Draw - an Urban Sketching Workshop with Ryan Naga
Join Ryan in observing Perth one drawing at a time. 'Quick on the Draw' is open to participants of all ages and skill levels. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own sketchbooks and any other art materials they are already comfortable with using. Basic equipment will be provided.
DJ Workshops with Club Jewelz
Club Jewelz's DJ Workshop is aimed towards women, gender diverse and non-binary folks, LGBTQI+, POC, BIPOC and Disabled people who are interested in learning how to DJ. This will be a session for beginners with no prior experience and will cover the basics of learning how to DJ.
Nostalgia Box Console Games
Australia’s first and only interactive video game console museum will be bringing the vintage classics to Market Day! The Nostalgia Box will be setting up shop in Forrest Chase, bringing all the games you know and love under a marquee for you to enjoy. Take a break and journey through the worlds of Sonic, Super Mario, Tony Hawk Pro Skater and more.
Terrarium Making Workshop
Roll up your sleeves and join Kaylie Bodeker from Grow & Grow Co. to make your very own magical terrarium wonderland. The perfect self watering, low maintenance house plant! Workshops are on a first-come, first-served basis. You can find this workshop within the KickstART Market stalls.

In and amongst the markets, we will be bringing you the best daytime festival atmosphere courtesy of some of our favourite WA bands.
KickstART Market Day
Take part in the many exciting interactive activities we have on offer in the Perth Cultural Centre! The KickstART Market is the biggest part of KickstART Festival Day, which is the biggest event on the Youth Week WA calendar, so don’t miss out!
The Sit with Amsha and Leilani Apa
This will be an interactive meditation workshop for confidence, self-belief and relaxation to help you get creative, dreaming and to go after your dreams! The workshop will include a guided relaxation meditation, movement meditation and journaling, so bring a pen and paper to jot down any ideas and if you have one, a yoga mat or cushion!
City of Melville and KickstART Festival Youth Art Exhibition
The City of Melville and KickstART Festival Youth Art Exhibition is a collective group exhibition featuring a variety of visual works from young artists. Intentionally unrestricted in theme, this is a space to make anything work so long as you have the vision. Attendees are invited to vote on their favourite piece, with the winner receiving a week of free gallery hire at the Canning Bridge Community Space. The artist group has been mentored by Cara Teusner-Gartland.
City of Melville and KickstART Festival Youth Art Exhibition: Opening Night
Come and celebrate the opening of the City of Melville and KickstART Festival Youth Art Exhibition! There will be food, good DJs, and even better company. Featuring works from a range of visual art disciplines, there will be something for everyone to love. Be inspired and vote on your favourite piece. The exhibition will run from April 14 – 28.
Sketchbook Project Exhibition
The Sketchbook Project is a collaborative and visual experience that provides an opportunity for young people to share their own personal stories and passions with the wider community across Western Australia.
For generations, sketchbooks have provided a space for the greatest works and stories of our time to grow. The Sketchbook Project invites young people across WA to share their personal stories, thoughts, artistry and passions by filling a small sketchbook.
This year, The Sketchbook Project Exhibition has been designed by guest young artist Jake Pitcher.
Broadcast to Space (Episode 2) with Buckland
Buckland - Broadcast to Space Episode 2 is the second episode in a series of internet audio broadcasts, inspired from the musician Buckland created and performed by David Stewart and Nonie Trainor. The show is broadcasted live online, and hosted by two aliens in an attempt to reconnect with their home planet.
ASTROFUSE
ASTROFUSE is a top-down pixel PC puzzle game where players navigate through a lifeless alien planet. Players journey through several landscapes as an astronaut, discovering mysterious spirits and a planetary core. The player aims to unveil the secrets of this alien world and fuse with the mysterious spirits to revitalise the world.
