An Evening of African Poetry and Storytelling (EAPS) is an interdisciplinary live performance show that brings together a collective of emerging African diaspora creatives. Step into the homes of The Outsiders and immerse yourself in their struggle to simply be and be seen. The African diaspora cast returns to delight with a crafty narrative and razor-sharp wordplay. Ponder over the heavy punchlines and underlying themes of mental health and community, delivered in sizzling rap and spoken word performances. A collection of stories carefully woven to capture the modern-day migrant experience. Audiences are encouraged to feel at home, grab an instrument and join in the fun.
The previous iteration of EAPS explored what it meant to be African and featured 7 African performers performing original pieces as part of Propel Youth Arts WA’s KickstART Festival 2022. This iteration of EAPS is set to explore the meaning of home. Our artists delved deep into their growing community to find meaning behind the word. We uncovered some truly powerful stories that illuminate some truly unique perspectives. We know that we will inspire some with the stories they will come across. More importantly, we believe that this is a show that migrants from all over the world will be able to connect with.
