ARTIST STATEMENT

Down South / Here (Izzy and Taonga)

Down South / Here is a collaborative work between sound-person Izzy French and word-magician Taonga Sendama. It details their shared experiences of existing as humans in natural spaces; Quietly observant, thoroughly humbled, constantly in awe of the world around them. Down South / Here does not hide its inherent humanness nor does it centre it – It pairs the sounds of birds, forests, and parks with personal lo-fi, homely ramblings. Both Izzy and Taonga wanted to create something that conveys and mimics, if only slightly, how it feels to sit quietly in these spaces. They hope you will also sit for a moment, and listen to the world around us.
