Some KickstART performances take place in-person (such as the Boorloo Hustle Talent Show, KISS Club, and Night Dancing) while others are being pre-recorded and will be shown throughout Youth Week and beyond!

Effortlessly gliding between Pop, Indie, Funk, Jazz, and Soul!
Mal de Mer is a dynamic 6-piece Boorloo band and has been able to constantly evolve at a rapid pace, exploring different sounds and avenues with each release.
The band consists of Julia Wallace (Trumpet/Keyboard), James Marelich (Drums), Saskia Fleming (Vocals/Synth), Bella Waideman (Bass), Ashton Weaver (Guitar), and John Harvey (Guitar).
Their latest single ‘Pray to You’ is out across all platforms now!
The half Filipino and half Ghanaian singer-songwriter, Jewel Owusu was born in the vibrant city of Hong Kong. Growing up in New Zealand, her travels eventually brought her to the most isolated city in the world; Perth, Western Australia. Drawing from her diverse background, her lyricism is true to herself with her debut EP mantra (produced with NAMESAKE) exploring themes of spirituality, culture, and relationships.
Through a light-hearted and charismatic stage presence, Blue Honey have engaged a substantial audience across Perth and are yet to release their debut single. Blue Honey’s raw lyricism about angst, love, and nostalgia, contrasts with their upbeat and atmospheric melodies to create a dance party for sad people. Their sound and songwriting is heavily inspired by artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Snail Mail, and Soccer Mommy.
Ken Paolo and The Space Cadets (WA) is a RnB/Soul band from Boorloo (Perth). Bursting onto the scene in 2021, the 5-piece band has launched into the hearts of music lovers and gained instant momentum. With their releases of the dreamy “$4 Pizza” single, or groovy ToneCity Recording produced “Dance With A Broken Heart”. Expect smooth sounds with catchy melodies and funky, phat jazz/RnB influences. Fronted by lead sing Ken Paolo, with the band - Cass on bass, Bob on keys, Kuda on drums and Persia on vocals - see why they’re one of Perth’s most exciting emerging live acts. Siena Rebelo & her band will be playing one of their original songs. Taking inspiration from a variety of styles & artists, to create a diverse and unique sound, she & her band offer an endearing and engaging sound for all to enjoy. From luminous captivating and thought-provoking solo works to energetic & dynamic performances with her support band, there’s something for everyone!
A concert featuring an ensemble of emerging experimental musicians who have been mentored by Perth’s leading improvisers. The concert will consist of a long-form improvisation by the participants of the project as a united ensemble.
Sight Unseen is a playful work that celebrates breaking free of the codes of expected behaviour and the necessity of letting your naughty out. A rabble of eight young performers opens up to the audience and reminds us all that our quirks and difference are what makes us interesting.
Night Dancing is an invitation to walk together, to witness deep dancing, and to experience anew the night streets of Northbridge. The event doubles as a site-specific performance, open creative research session, and opportunity to gather as a community. Please join us for a poetic and playful exploration into safety, reclamation, cycles, and care.
KISS club celebrates work in progress, giving audiences fresh insight into what is bubbling in the hearts and minds of Perth’s experimental performance makers, and the opportunity to help shape and support new work. Behind The Sound is a collection of interview videos that will offer you the chance to hear from a range of industry professionals such as artist managers, booking agents, event organisers and producers; throwing a spotlight on the diverse careers that are crucial to the industry but often go unnoticed.
The exclusive content will also introduce you to 4 exciting emerging musicians from Mandurah, performing an original song at the John Butler Studio in Pinjarra and talking about their music journey so far.
Featuring performances of traditional dance, hip-hop, song, poetry and drama, the Boorloo Hustle Talent Show is an opportunity for the next generation of Aboriginal artists to show their community what they’ve got.
Come and embrace an evening of African poetry and storytelling curated by The Outsiders that fuses different forms of performing arts. The aim? To allow our audience to experience the lives of those who society deems outsiders, as they seek to find their place in society while exploring their often complex identities, mental health, cultures, heritage, and art forms.
Music and poetry collide, new inter-disciplinary collaborations in response to place. Pairing four composers / musicians with four poets / writers, Tenth Muse Initiative will collaborate over several workshop sessions, and piece together a shared work in response to the Youth Week WA 2022 theme in the context of nature.

Koondarm presents to you their performance of ‘We Are One’ by Bruce Woodley & Dobe Newton, translated by Olive Wood. They’ve added a chant that was created by Honey Webb called ‘Nidja Noongar Boodja Koort’. This performance was filmed by Zal Kanga, during the choir's time at the Denmark Festival of Voice.
Koolangkas Kreate have been dancing together for over seven years to contemporary and traditional music. Join in the fun as they perform and teach a mix of traditional Noongar dances mixed with modern styles.
