A beginner’s guide to getting behind the decks.
So you want to learn how to DJ? Local dance-music collective Club Jewelz will be facilitating conversations with three Boorloo-based DJs as a part of the Youth Week WA Kickstart Festival to chat all things mixing. We'll be finding out about their recommendations for beginner equipment when they first got behind the decks, and some of their favourite dance floor memories.
As active members of the dance music community in Boorloo, Club Jewelz understands the immense benefits of fostering community and providing opportunities to those who might not have access to the resources necessary to learn to DJ.

About Club Jewelz
Club Jewelz is a Boorloo-based community initiative, party, and workshop series. We have identified that there is a distinct need in the dance music scene to uplift and provide support for marginalised communities and advocate for diversity, safety, and accessibility. We aim to do this by running events and workshops with a focus on putting women, gender diverse and non-binary folks, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and Disabled people to the front.
About the Youth Week WA KickstART Festival
Presented by Propel Youth Arts WA, the KickstART Festival has been the flagship event of Youth Week WA for 12 years running. KickstART offers over 60 free events - including workshops, talks, performances, mentorships, exhibitions, markets, and other special events - between 8 - 16 April, for young people aged 12-26.
Due to growing concerns about COVID-19 and the anticipated continued spread of Omicron across our communities in Boorloo (Perth) and WA, the Propel team has decided to pivot towards digital and hybrid formats for the delivery of the KickstART Festival this April.
The Youth Week WA KickstART Festival 2022 is presented by Propel Youth Arts WA and is funded by the Government of Western Australia through the Department of Communities and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. KickstART is also supported by Lotterywest, the City of Perth, the City of Stirling, the City of Fremantle, and the City of Vincent.
