Doomscroll Dialogues

  • The Blue Room Theatre 53 James Street Mall Perth, WA, 6000 Australia (map)

To doomscroll, distract, or disconnect? In a world where crises and content collide, we find ourselves caught in a perpetual loop of scrolling—our screens a portal to both chaos and connection.

Welcome to Doomscroll Dialogues, a multidisciplinary fusion of visual art and music improvisation that reflects our personal journeys navigating this condition. Eljo Agenbach and Jet Kye Chong - a.k.a. Duo Mimicri - respond to prompts from real-world doomscrolling experiences, and to each other, through digital painting, percussion and electronics, sharing their way of unravelling this emotional rollercoaster that we all know too well in 2024.

Doomscroll Dialogues will be held on Wednesday April 10, 5.30pm – 6.30pm at The Blue Room Theatre.

About Duo Mimicri:

Duo Mimicri are Eljo Agenbach (visual artist/clarinettist) and Jet Kye Chong (percussionist/composer), who have been improvising art and sound since 2016 with Tone List and Tura. Eljo, a Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist, leverages her training as a clarinettist with the University of Western Australia and Queensland Conservatorium of Music and deep love of music in all forms to influence her artistic practice. Her visual art collaborations include projects like ‘Orpheus’ with the Brisbane Music Festival, and commissions for Voyces (WA) and Australian clarinettist Lloyd Van’t Hoff. Jet is a Perth-based percussionist and composer, whose works have been performed throughout Australia, Asia, Canada and the USA. His performances have won the Malaysia Percussion Festival performance prize and the Perth Fringeworld Music and Musicals award, and he has toured nationally with the Momentum Ensemble and internationally as Principal Percussionist with the Australian Youth Orchestra. They rejoin for the 2024 KickstART Festival as Duo Mimicri, returning to their roots in collaborative improvisation in an immersive, explorative, and sensitive experience.
